“Barney” Bernard U. Frankl, 64, of Rutland, passed away August 15, 2011 at his home in Rutland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Algona. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt and from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the church. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt.
Barney is survived by his wife, Mickey of Rutland; mother, Rita Frankl of Cherokee; sons, Cory and Travis Frankl; daughters, Cristin Frankl and Libby Palmer; and grandchildren, Dillon and Joshua Palmer, all of Rutland. He is also survived by his special “kids”, Christopher Cran of Coralville, and Katie Cran of Rutland; brothers, Patrick (Sandy) of Corydon, Ron (Pam) of LuVerne, Gene (Jeanie) of Urbandale, Tim (Darlene) of Sioux City, and Don (Katie) of Jefferson, SD; sisters, Annette (Jim) Meyer of Larabee, and Janella (Ron) Frankl-Riecks of Cherokee; sisters-in-law, Jane Frankl of Algona, Roxie Gregory of Rutland, and Kallie (Jim) Davis of Rutland; 35 nieces and nephews; and 48 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Frankl; brother, Michael Frankl; and his in-laws, Bruce and Evelyn Gregory.
Bernard Urban Frankl, the son of Gerald and Rita (Kunkle) Frankl, was born October 13, 1946 at Algona, Iowa. He was raised at Irvington and graduated from Garrigan High School in 1964. Barney served in the National Guard from August of 1965 until September of 1970 and was the manager of the feedlot at the Humboldt Sale Barn. He then went into the construction business building packinghouses for IBP and powerhouses and water towers all across the country for many years. For the past twelve years, Barney was in the trucking business, first as an owner/operator driving cross-country then for New COOP.
Barney will be remembered as a people person. He enjoyed visiting with people and handing out “dollar rings” everywhere he went. He loved horses and Rose Mill Park where he built many of its structures.
