Clayton G. Larsen, 82, of Humboldt, passed away December 15, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Charles Luers officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt with full military honors by the Adams American Legion Post 119 and Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mr. Larsen is survived by his wife, Carolyn R. Larsen of Humboldt; children, Pete (Carolyn) Larsen of Humboldt, Victoria Eggerich of Humboldt, David (Julie) Larsen of Rutland, Linda Kaye Larsen of Minneapolis, MN, and Margaret “Maggie” Flurey of Dakota City; grandchildren, Justin Hinners, Erica Hinners, Kursten Eggerich, Joe Hinners, Stephanie (Justin) Parsley, Krystal Larsen, Robert Larsen, Ben Flurey, Max Flurey, and foster granddaughter, Amber Millsap; and great grandchildren, Brooks Hinners, Karson Reinhardt, and Bella Metley. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clinton and Clyde Larsen; and his very close cousin, Genevieve Carlson.
Clayton Gerald Larsen, the son of Peter K. and Lillie Mae (Miller) Larsen, was born June 8, 1931 on the family farm near Rutland. Following his education, Clayton enlisted into the United States Army. Following the death of his father, he was honorably discharged and returned home to care for his mother and take over the family farming operations. On February 23, 1958, he was united in marriage to Carolyn R. Olden. In addition to their faming operations, which included raising hogs and selling Super Crost seed corn, Clayton also worked for New Idea and Will Construction. He then established Larsen Painting, which grew to employ many local young people as summer painters and roofers. His son, Pete, took over the farming operations and, in 2001, the family built their new home in Humboldt. Following his retirement from farming, Clayton continued his painting business until four years ago.
Clayton was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. He enjoyed attending auctions and drinking coffee and visiting with his friends. Above all, Clayton enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren.
