Dolores M. (Gronbach) Wittmeier, 83, of Humboldt, passed away June 7, 2010 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt with a time of refreshments followed by interment at Union Cemetery in Livermore. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday (today) at the Church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Dolores was born to Elmer and Lucille (Melavin) Gronbach on May 19, 1927, in Kossuth County, Iowa. She passed from this life on June 7, 2010, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She graduated from Livermore High School in 1944. She then attended Business College in Mason City. Her professional career began at the Livermore State Bank. She then cooked for and managed several restaurants, was city clerk for the town of Livermore, and served as bookkeeper for an appliance store in Storm Lake. She spent her retirement years living in Humboldt where she enjoyed various card clubs, playing Bingo, and having coffee with her friends. Dolores’s most recent years were spent residing in Long-term Care at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital where she received loving and expert care.
In 1949 Dolores married Dale (Demps) Christensen, and to that marriage were born Mike, Connie, and Suz Christensen. In 1959 she married Marvin Lamb, and to this marriage were born Dennis, Doug, Terry, and Judy Lamb. In 1989 Dolores married Lee Wittmeier.
Dolores is survived by four sons and two daughters and their spouses: Mike and Kathy Christensen from Ankeny; Connie (Christensen) and Steve DeGroote from West Terre Haute, IN; Suz (Christensen) and Rick Kalsow from Arnolds Park; Dennis and Joni Lamb from Baxter, MN; Doug and Kim Lamb from Norwalk; and Terry Lamb from Clarksville, TN; as well as 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and her brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Bernice Gronbach from Humboldt.
Preceding Dolores in death were her parents, daughter Judy Lamb, husbands Marvin Lamb and Lee Wittmeier, and brother Robert Gronbach.
Memorials may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of Iowa.
