Don L. Gord, 80, of Dakota City, passed away March 23, 2018 at The Fort Dodge Health and Rehab facility in Fort Dodge, IA. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Don Gord, the son of Peter and Karen (Christensen) Gord, was born Sept. 24, 1937 in rural Humboldt. He attended country schools and graduated from Humboldt High School. Following his education, Don was employed by area farmers and the DeKalb Seed Corn Company. He was united in marriage to Alice Johnsen on June 27, 1959 at the First Lutheran Church in Humboldt and the couple made their home in Dakota City. Don went to work at the Humboldt Locker and Farm and Home in Humboldt. He was also employed by Gunder Manufacturing and served as custodian fro Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt until his retirement.
Don especially enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and feeding the squirrels. He is survived by his wife; Alice, sons; Steve (Yvonnie) of Dakota City and John (Tracey) of Dakota City, daughter; Rachel (Chris) Powell of Matlock, IA and 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, brother Peter Ronald (Kay) Gord and sister Janice (Delbert) Abbas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
