Donna M. Olson, 85, of Humboldt, passed away December 19, 2013 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Christy Ehrle officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt
Mrs. Olson is survived by her husband, Ralph Olson of Humboldt; her daughters, Diane (Mike) Schroeder of Humeston, IA, Carolyn Olson of Phoenix, AZ, and Shari (Dave) Novotny of Kirkland, IL; her son, Kim Olson of Dakota City; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Marilyn Hundertmark and Anita Hinners, both of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Curt Illg; and brother, Robert Solbeck.
Donna Marie Solbeck, the daughter of George and Grace (Day) Solbeck, was born November 21, 1928 on a farm southeast of Rutland. As a child, she moved with her family to a farm Northeast of Rutland and graduated as the only student in the eighth grade. She then attended and graduated from Humboldt High School. Following her education, Donna went to work as the City Clerk for the City of Humboldt.
She was united in marriage to Ralph Olson on June 19, 1949 at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt. The couple made their home on a farm south of Bode before moving to a farm north of Bode in 1952. In 1959, the family purchased their farm near Bode where they farmed together for many years. In 2002, they made their home in Humboldt.
Donna was a life-long member of the Faith United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, Vacation Bible School, and quilted. She was a skilled oil painter and a published poet and she enjoyed gardening. Above all, Donna loved her family.
