Elsie D. Hankins, 93, of Humboldt, formerly of Bode, passed away July 21, 2014 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode with the Rev. Steve Bliss officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Elsie is survived by her husband of 71 years, Warren Hankins of Humboldt; her children, Becky and husband, Rich Lichtenhagen of Seattle, WA, Cindy and husband, Earl Enyart of Savage, MN, and Ron Hankins and partner, Jim Pech of Polk City; grandchildren, Kelli, Kirk, Alexis, and Ashlee; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Trushcheff of Fort Dodge; and sister-in-law, Betty Worthington of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dale Kleist; brothers, George, Art, and Frank; and sisters, Ann, Alma, and Irene.

Elsie D. Siefert, the daughter of George and Clara (Brown) Siefert, was born April 28, 1921 on a farm near Duncombe, Iowa. At the age of 12, she moved with her family to a farm near Pioneer where she attended school. While in high school, Elsie was the pitcher for the softball team and was employed as a clerk for Tobin Meat Packing in Fort Dodge. Her graduating class of 1939 had four students, including Warren Hankins whom she was united in marriage to on June 8, 1943. Elsie worked for Iowa State Bank in Fort Dodge until Warren’s induction into the Military during World War II when they moved to Little Rock, AR. Following the war, they returned home to farm in the Pioneer area. They then moved to Bode where they farmed for 50 years. In addition to helping Warren with the farming operations, she was employed for many years by Saul Studio in Humboldt. In 1990 they made their home in Humboldt.

Elsie was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and a 63-year member of the Bode American Legion Auxiliary. She loved caring for her children and never missed their activities. She enjoyed baking and was known for her cinnamon rolls and baked beans and enjoyed golfing and loved to shop.
