Evalyn Esther Gregory, age 87, of Rutland passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the Long Term Care Center in Humboldt. Per Evalyn’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. The Gregory family will greet family and friends on Friday, October 16, 2009 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at the Town Hall in Rutland in celebration of Evalyn’s life.
Evalyn Esther Gregory, the daughter of John and Leola (Adams) Wallace, was born on April 1, 1922 in Bradgate, Iowa. She was raised in Bradgate where she graduated from the Bradgate High School. Following high school, Evalyn moved to Denver, Colorado and Tuscan, Arizona during World War II. After the war, she returned home to Iowa where she was united in marriage to Bruce Gregory on August 28, 1945. The couple made their home on a farm in Rutland. Evalyn worked as a waitress at Johnny’s Steak Harbor and Gordys in Rutland.
Evalyn was a member of the Rutland Town and Country Club and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and loved having coffee with her friends.
Evalyn is survived by her daughters, Roxie Gregory of Rutland, Mickey (Barney) Frankl of Rutland, Kallie (Jim) Davis of Rutland; grandchildren, Cory Frankl, Travis Frankl, Ian Decker, Cristin Frankl, and Libby Palmer; great-grandchildren, Dillion Palmer and Libby Palmer; and sister-in-laws Annie Wallace of Geneva, MN and Barbra Gregory of Rutland.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce; parents, John and Leola; sisters, Doris Schultz and Edna Edwards; and brothers, Gordon Wallace and Robert Wallace.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Humboldt.
