Everett W. Roberts, 89, of Eagle Grove, formerly of Humboldt, passed away March 12, 2014 in Dublin, GA.  Graveside funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove with full Military Rites by the Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240 and Adams American Legion Post 119.  Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Sunday  at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Mr. Roberts is survived by his daughter, Marla (Tom) Christopher of Clear Lake; sons, Marvin (Janice) Roberts of Macon, GA, and Kevin (Tina) Roberts of Las Vegas, NV; 7 grandchildren, Karri Johanson of Hugo, MN, Eric Roberts of Macon, GA, Laura Twedt of Fultondale, AL, Scott Christopher of West Des Moines, Steven Christopher of Eagle Grove, Mark Christopher of Clear Lake, and Stephanie Hellebrand of Las Vegas, NV; 7 great grandchildren, Brittany and Tyler Johanson, Connor, Caitlin, and MaKaylee Christopher, and Tyler and Taylor Hellebrand; his brother, Jack Roberts of California; and sisters, Mary Pichette of Oregon and LuElla Kindler of Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine; brothers, Darwin and Loren Roberts; and sisters, Bobbie Williams and NelvaDean Egge.

Everett Wayne Roberts, the son of Virgil and Orpha (Hildreth) Roberts, was born May 25, 1924 at West Bend, Iowa and was raised and educated in the Rolfe area.  He enlisted into the United States Navy on the day before Pearl Harbor and served for four years in the Pacific Theater during World War II.  He was stationed aboard the USS Portland, which saw action at Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Midway, and Coral Sea becoming the second most decorated ship of the fleet behind the USS Lexington.

Following his honorable discharge, Everett returned home and completed high school.  He met Maxine Ilene Smith, who was teaching at Des Moines Township Country School, and the couple was united in marriage on July 6, 1947 at Windom, MN.  They made their home at Windom for two years before returning to Iowa and settling in Humboldt.  During his working life, Everett farmed, served as a grocery store manager, and worked for Nesbit’s Pop, Humboldt Distilled Water, Agrico, and Dodgen Industries.  Following his retirement, he remained active delivering Winnebago Motorhomes around the country.  In 1989, the couple moved to Eagle Grove and in 1998, Mrs. Roberts passed away.  Everett enjoyed the many winters he spent and the friends he made in Georgia.

Everett was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and was a life member of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars and the American Legion where he held the positions of Post Commander, Humboldt County Commander, 8th District Commander, and State Vice Commander.   He was also a member of Elks Lodge #2549 of Eatonton, GA.
