Harold Charles Peterson

June 26, 1917 — February 28, 2015

Harold C. Peterson, 97, of Humboldt, passed away February 28, 2015 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Internment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt with full military honors by Adams American Legion Post 119 and Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Harold is survived by his sons, Mervin (Ginny) Peterson of Tucson, AZ, Gary (Patty) Peterson of Pocahontas, and James (Rosetta Busick) Peterson of Clarion; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; and 3 brothers, Merle, Walter, and Raymond.

Harold C. Peterson, the son of Henry and Ida (Widen) Peterson, was born June 26, 1917 at Manson, Iowa. He was raised and educated at Manson and graduated from Manson High School. Following his education, he was employed in the Manson Grocery Store and Fort Dodge Labs for a time. On June 26, 1926, Harold was united in marriage to Evelyn Johnson and the couple made their home in Manson where Harold was employed in Foley’s Clothing Store. In December of 1943, Harold enlisted into the United States Navy. He served in the Air Arm of the Navy in Fallon, NV in the carrier service section. Following his honorable discharge, Harold returned home to Manson. In 1947, the growing family moved to Humboldt and Harold went to work for Smith Skellgas. Following the completion of a correspondence bookkeeping course, he became the office manager of REC in Humboldt where he remained nearly 30 years until his retirement in 1980.
Harold was a long time active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church where he taught the Bethel Bible Study, served on various committees, and served as church treasurer for 14 years. He enjoyed golfing, and needlepoint. In his younger days, Harold loved to play organized fast pitch softball and in later years, enjoyed the many bus trips he took with Evelyn.
