Horace Dwight Adams, 99 of Humboldt passed away January 22, 2014 at the Long-Term Care Unit of Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Friday January 31 at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt the Reverend Charles Luers officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Horace Dwight Adams son of Harry J. and Ethel Blake Adams was born April 8, 1914 in Westbrook, MN. In March 1919 the family moved to Welcome, MN where he started his schooling. In 1924 the family moved to his Grandpa Adams farm (Century farm) in Weaver Township. He attended Country School District #5 through the 8th grade and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1933. He took up agriculture in high school and was part of the first group of Future Farmers (later FFA). He farmed with his father and worked with a carpenter building and repairing buildings on the farm. In September 1940 he married Darlene Schulz of Hayfield, Iowa. She passed away in 1942. On March 2, 1947 he married Doris Davidson of Fort Dodge. He was engaged in farming until 1984 and lived on the family farm until 2009 when the couple moved to Springvale Senior Living in Humboldt.

Horace was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Humboldt Model A Club, the Lions Club, and was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. Horace was an intelligent man who enjoyed reading, especially history books. He enjoyed woodworking and fashioned many trunks for Model A autos. He remembered hearing the bells ringing to mark the armistice ending World War One. His grandchildren remember him fondly for among many other things giving then lawn mower rides.

Horace is survived by Doris his wife of 66 years; son Charles Adams of Humboldt; son Donald (Kathy) Adams  of Milton, MA; daughter Carol (Richard )Spaulding of Newburgh, IN; son Robert (Valoyce) Adams of St. Charles, IL; daughter Alice (Michael) Heinrichs of Webster City; 10 grandchildren Scott (Sarah), Lisa, Steven (Cyndy), Jennifer (Simon) Katie (John), Thomas (Meghan),  Meghan, Nicole, Colin, and Ryan; 4 great grandchildren Celeste, Greyson, Jacquelyn, and Olivia; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law Beulah Adams of Humboldt and Betty Arnold of Garner. Preceding Horace in death were his parents, brothers Carroll and Lloyd and his sister Lois.

The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of the arrangements.
