John Franklin Jaqua, 79, of Humboldt, Iowa, died January 17, 2013 at his home following a brief illness.
John Franklin Jaqua was born June 7, 1933, the son of Franklin Jaqua and Esther (Rossing) Jaqua. He graduated from Humboldt HS and attended the University of Iowa. He had summer internships at the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the Milwaukee Journal and the Des Moines Register.
He then worked at the family owned newspaper, the Humboldt Independent. He spent many years at the Chicago Daily News as a Photographer, and did special photo assignments for Sports Illustrated, Time, Medical World News and other publications. For 8 years he served as Photo Editor of the Arizona Republic newspaper.
In 1957, he married Jan Piper, and to this union four children were born. Kathryn Piskulick, Sarah Kallsen, Susan Albers (Timothy) and John Franklin Jaqua. Six grandchildren survive:- Emily Piskulick, Ben Albers, Sarah Albers, Andrew Albers, and Elizabeth and Joseph Kallsen. He is survived by his wife Jan, and by brother Richard A. Jaqua (Mary Jo).
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.-Memorials can be made to the Faith United Methodist Church, or Trinity Hospice.
The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
