Kathryn M. Sorensen

Kathryn Marie Sorensen, 96, of Humboldt, passed away January 14, 2009 at the Humboldt Care Center North.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.  Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt.  Visitation with the family will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Anna Sorensen; her brother, Royal Sorensen; and her sisters, Carrie Larsen and Gladys Graves Smith. Her nieces and nephews survive her.
Kathryn Marie Sorensen, the daughter of Peter and Anna Sorensen, was born April 9, 1912 at Humboldt, Iowa.  She received her education in the Dakota City and Humboldt School System and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1930.  She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls where she received her B.A. Degree in 1945 and received her Masters Degree from Colorado State University.  Kathryn’s education also included attending the University of Wyoming and North Dakota State University.  Kathryn served as a teacher for the school districts of Bode, Clarion, Newton, Grinnell, Algona, and Mason City and served as a professor at North Iowa Area Community College.  She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Following her retirement, Kathryn continued to maintain her home in Mason City.  She then made her home at an assisted living community in Webster City until 1993 when she became a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North.  She passed away there on the afternoon of January 14, 2009 at the age of 96.
