Dr. Kenneth G. Pride, 91, of Humboldt, passed away May 26, 2017 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Humboldt with the Rev. Shonda Deranleau officiating. Burial, with full military rites, will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Gordon Pride, the son of Clifford and Anna (McBride) Pride, was born January 16, 1926 at Fort Dodge, Iowa where he was raised and educated. During his junior year of high school, Kenneth enlisted into the United States Navy and served on a gun crew aboard a merchant ship in the South Pacific during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, Ken returned home. After completing high school, he enrolled in Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, graduating in 1952. On February 23, 1952 he married June Pollock and the couple made their home at Algona where Dr. Pride established his first practice. They then moved to Humboldt and Ken purchased Dr. Jensen’s practice on North Taft Street. In 1957, Ken built his clinic on 3rd Avenue and Sumner where he remained until his retirement in 1998. June passed away in March of 1973 and on September 6, 1980, he was united in marriage to Sandy (Laing) Peltz. The couple continued to maintain their home in Humboldt.
Kenneth was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Humboldt. He held several offices in the State Chiropractic Organization and served on the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He was a member of the Humboldt Lions Club and The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5240. During the 1960’s, Ken owned a donut shop on Sumner Avenue next to the bus depot. He loved to fish and made many trips to Lake Alexandria and Lake Millac in Minnesota. He also enjoyed refinishing antique furniture and was helpful to his daughter during lambing season.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Sandy Pride of Humboldt; daughters, Bev (Steve) Templeton of Garner, and Annette Pride of West Des Moines; step children, Brad (Cherri) Peltz of Dakota City and Kyndra (Robert) Johnson of Longville, MN, and son-in-law’s Bill Royer of Washington, IL and Gary Lawson of Peoria, IL; 11 grandchildren, Melissa (Kevin) Sullivan, Sarah (Jason) Barley, Scott (Stephanie) Lawson, Andrew (Whitney) Lawson, Cari (Mitch) Klemme, Amy Templeton, Erin Templeton, and Miranda, Addison, Kayla, Taylor Johnson; and 7 great grandchildren, Avery & Brixton Sullivan, Liam & Kinley Barley, Gage Lawson, Roslyn & Fred Klemme. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Debbie Royer and Cindy Lawson; sister, Cleo; and brothers, Clifford and Gene.
