Lois Riles, 81, of Dakota City, passed away August 13, 2012 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 16, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Humboldt.  Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. There will be a Parish Rosary at 5:00, a VFW Auxiliary Memorial Service at 7:00, and a Parish Scripture Service at 7:30 Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Connie Riles of Dakota City; sons, Robert Riles, Jr. of Ames, Mike Riles of Gilmore City, Terry Riles of Manson, and Jeff Riles of Livermore; 6 granddaughters; 3 great granddaughters; her brother, J.E. “Spud” Colwell of Humboldt; and sisters, Rosemary Dencklau and Jean Jennings, both of Humboldt; Evelyn McDonald of Georgia, and Pat Powers of Duncombe.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Riles; infant daughter, Nancy; her granddaughter, Khristina Riles; and sister, Dorothy Reynolds.

Lois Waterbury, the daughter of Harold and Velma (McFarland) Waterbury, was born November 29, 1930 in Kossuth County, Iowa.  She attended Grant Public School and graduated from Humboldt High School.  Following her education, Lois was employed in a local pharmacy.  She was united in marriage to Robert Riles on November 22, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt.  The couple made their home in Dakota City and Lois was employed at the Humboldt Care Center South.  Lois also worked in the restaurant business, first in a restaurant that she and Bob owned, then for Benton Truck Stop and Rita’s.  Following her retirement, Lois worked part time for the Humboldt Workshop.  Mr. Riles passed away in January
of 1997 and Lois continued to maintain her home until her death.

Lois was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary.  She enjoyed crocheting and embroidery.  Above all, Lois loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
