Roger “Lone T” Boitnott

d. October 13, 2014

Roger “Lone T” Boitnott, 71 passed away October 13, 2014 at Humboldt Care Center North. Visitation will be held at the Chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with services immediately following, The Reverend Doug Wolter officiating. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Roger Boitnott was born May 21, 1943, the oldest of four children born to Merle and Harriet (Climpson) Boitnott. Roger grew up and attended school in Humboldt. He went to culinary school in Des Moines, but did not choose culinary arts as his career. He traveled to Texas when he was 16 and became fascinated with the culture of the state. When he returned he adopted the moniker “Lone T”—short for Lone Texan. From that time on he assumed the dress and mannerisms of his beloved state. Roger worked tirelessly for Marso Excavating for over 31 years where he was a self-taught equipment operator. His failing health forced him to retire a couple of years ago.

Roger was a legendary performer at karaoke clubs all over the state, community events, and family gatherings. He loved singing and was very good at it. He covered the music of Willie Nelson and was sometimes mistaken for him. He enjoyed the music of Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard and all of the classic country performers. In addition to his love of music, Roger was known for his easy manner and fun personality. He loved to laugh and tried to share laughter with others.

Those remaining behind to cherish Roger’s memory include his children Daniel Leroy Boitnott of Tulsa, OK, Melody Ann Sorenson of Fort Dodge, Rhonda Boitnott-Stone of Cedar Rapids, and former son-in-law Shannon Sorenson of Fort Dodge. Also surviving Roger are his grandchildren Amy Boitnott, Cheyenne Sorenson, Ethan Sorenson, Jessica Renee , Sara Dawn, Emily Rose, Angel, Sierra, and DesChanel LaShaun Boitnott, Virgil William Stone III, Israel Immanuel Stone, and Morgan Gill. Surviving siblings include Gaylord (June) Boitnott of Fayetteville, NC, Merlin (Terri) Boitnott of Humboldt, and Sheryl (Craig) Campbell of Cedar Rapids. Preceding Roger in death were his parents, infant daughter Angela Marie, grandson Shannon John Sorenson, Jr., grandson Braden, and brother Orland Francis Boitnott. He also leaves behind a host of extended family and friends through his church, karaoke, and travels. His motto was “I’ve never met a stranger.”
