Shirley Mae Zenor

Shirley Mae Zenor, 84, of Humboldt, passed away April 9, 2011 at the Humboldt Care Center North.  Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at North Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Lynda Bigler officiating.  The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt was in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Mae Penning, the daughter of Anton and Bessie (VanHouten) Penning, was born September 22, 1926 at Hardy, Iowa.  She received her education at Humboldt and graduated Valedictorian of the class of 1944.  As a student, she was employed as an usher at the Humota Theater and following her education was employed in the city clerk’s office.  Shirley then went to work for the Humboldt Trust and Savings Bank where she remained for 35 years. She was united in marriage to Frank J. Zenor on March 10, 1953.  Following her retirement from the bank, Shirley worked as a bookkeeper for Farm Egg for five years.  Mr. Zenor passed away on November 13, 1998 and Shirley continued to maintain her home in Humboldt until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North.  She passed away there on April 9, 2011 at the age of 84.

Shirley was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ.  She is survived by her sisters, Jean Hanson of Owatonna, Minnesota, Louise Sayre of Ames, and Mary Lou Warner of Gilmore City; nieces and nephews, Paul, Robert, and Ann Hanson, Eric and Brad Sayre, and Jeff Warner; as well as great nieces and nephews.
