Veronica Marie Miller, the daughter of John and Elsie (Leist) Miller was born January 20, 1920 on the family farm near Clare and attended school in Gilmore City. After her schooling she was a caretaker for area families and their children. On January 22, 1941 she was united in marriage to Jasper Dornath and the two made their home in the Gilmore City area, from that union came two children Norma and Marilyn. It was during that time that she ran Ronnie’s Café in Pioneer for over 10 years. Mr. Dornath passed away in 1957 and on October 17, 1958 she married Russell Bothwell. The couple and their children made their home in the Pioneer area where they farmed until Mr. Bothwell’s retirement in 1968. In 1969 the family moved to Dakota City and Mrs. Bothwell took up work as a housekeeper for the Beacon Motel and Worthington Insurance and Real Estate.
After her retirement, Veronica enjoyed playing cards, fishing, playing bingo, traveling on bus tours, watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, the Hawkeyes and Cyclones, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church. Mrs. Bothwell’s family would also like to especially thank Veronica’s close neighbors for the thoughtful care they have given her in recent years.
