Virginia L. Baugous, 80, of Ankeny, formerly of Humboldt, died November 16, 2014 at her home in Ankeny. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Father James Tigges will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt with a parish rosary and Chaplet of Devine Mercy at 10:15 a.m.

Mrs. Baugous is survived by her husband, Charles Baugous of Ankeny; children, Mary (Bob) Hingtgen of West Des Moines, Nancy (Jeff) McComas of Orlando, FL, and Rob (Amanda) Baugous of Moline, IL; 7 grandchildren, Kelly Erickson, Justin Hingtgen, Katy Hingtgen, Meghan McComas, Colin McComas, Charlie Baugous, and Sam Baugous; 1 great grandchild, Carter Hingtgen; brothers, Richard (Kay) Sawyer of Renwick, Kenneth (Sharon) Sawyer of Humboldt, and Tom (Jeanne) Sawyer of Branson, MO; and sister-in-law, Barbara Sawyer of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Marvin Sawyer, Jr., Gerald Sawyer, and Merlin Sawyer; and sisters, Patricia Sawyer and Beverly Schmitt.

Virginia Lucille Sawyer, the daughter of Marvin and Gladys (Bjornson) Sawyer, was born February 22, 1934 at Humboldt, Iowa. She was raised and educated at Livermore and graduated from Livermore High School. She attended beauty school in Fort Dodge and established her practice in Humboldt. She was united in marriage to Charles Baugous on August 20, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Parsonage. The couple made their home in Humboldt while Charles completed his college education before moving to Lone Tree. They then made their home in Avoca where Charles served as a coach and Virginia owned and operated a home-based beauty salon. Following a brief move to DeWitt, they settled in West Des Moines for the next 25 years and moved to Ankeny in 1987. Virginia passed away at her home on the morning of November 16, 2014 at the age of 80.

Virginia was a member of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Parish in Ankeny. She loved her grandchildren, took great pride in her three children and their spouses, and loved being a mother and a wife. Her past times included antiquing, refinishing furniture, and baking.
