Betty Jensen Christensen

December 11, 1923 — February 7, 2016

Betty Jensen Christensen, 92, former Post Master at Gilmore City, passed away February 7, 2016 at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with the Rev. Christy Ehrle officiating. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt with full military honors by Adams American Legion Post 119 and Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Sue (Bruce) Cran of Indianola; grandchildren, Melissa Cran of Sioux Falls, SD, Chris (Katy) Cran of Ames, and Dana (Trish) Jensen of Humboldt; great-grandchild, Caroline Cran of Ames; daughter-in-law, Sandy Jensen of Humboldt; and brother, Frank (Roberta) Erickson of Muddy Gap, WY. She was preceded in death by her parents, Corent and Mary (Paulson) Erickson; husband, Donald Christensen; daughter, Mary Jensen; son Dave “Doc” Jensen; sister, Marjorie Hawkins; and brother, Junior “Eric” Erickson.
Betty Erickson, the daughter of Corent and Mary (Paulson) Erickson, was born December 11, 1923 on a farm in Humboldt County. She attended country schools and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1942. During World War II, Betty served with the United States Army Air Corp WAF, stationed at Hammer Field near Fresno, California, from 1944 until her honorable discharge in 1946. She married Edwin Jensen in 1946 and that marriage was later dissolved. She began her career with the United States Postal Service in 1959 as a substitute clerk in Gilmore City. She worked her way up to Post Master before retiring in 1977.
She was united in marriage to Donald Christensen in 1977. The couple made their home in Richville, Minnesota where they owned and operated a family resort. In 1998, they made their home in Hubbard, Iowa and in 2004, they moved to Indianola. Mr. Christensen passed away on February 7, 2007, and Betty Continued to maintain her home in Indianola until her death 9 years later on February 7, 2016.
