Betty J. Etherington

Betty Jane Etherington, 62 of Humboldt, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

She was born April 6, 1956 in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Hiram and JoAnne (Weiland) Shouse. She grew up in Fort Dodge and then moved to Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1974. Betty was united in marriage to Mark Eggrich and the couple made their home in Dakota City. She started her employment career at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital following high school and worked her way up serving as the Chief Financial Officer for the hospital. On December 12, 1987, she married David L. Etherington. The couple made their home in Humboldt. Betty served on the Humboldt Ambulance Service for many years, was passionate about animals and enjoyed quilting, photography, reading and travel.

She is survived by her husband, Dave of Humboldt, her step-children, Carrie (Paul) Seberger of Marshalltown, Nathan (Pami) Etherington and Grant (Kristen) Etherington all of Polk City, ten grandchildren, Aaron, Ellie, Isaac, Jacob, Rhett, Peter, Case, Cora, Maryn and Harlee, her brother, James Shouse or Puerto Rico and her lifelong friend, Colleen Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jean.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. Sharing of Memories on Sunday, October 21st at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport, DeSoto, Iowa. www.masonlindhart.com
