Channing M. Greene

Channing M. Greene, 87, of Dakota City, passed away April 16, 2016 at the Humboldt Care Center South. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Christy Ehrle, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt, with full military rites by Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240 and Adams American Legion Post 119. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Channing was born on November 11, 1928 to William and Flossie (Moulds) Greene at the Algona Hospital. The family made their home briefly in Algona before moving to a farm west of Humboldt. Following the death of his father in 1938, the family moved into Humboldt. Following his education, Channing enlisted into the United States Navy and after his honorable discharge, he returned home to help his family farm. He then became a milkman for Carnation Dairy for many years. On August 2, 1952, Channing was united in marriage to Shirley Collins and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge briefly before settling in Dakota City. Following his retirement from Carnation, Channing spent the next ten years working for Corn Belt Cooperative. Mrs. Greene passed away on March 16, 2006 and Channing continued to maintain his home in Dakota City until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center South in June of 2014. He passed away there on the afternoon of April 16, 2016 a the age of 87.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Kelly & Susan Greene of Dakota Dunes, SD, Scott & Tricia Greene of Humboldt, Rock & Diane Greene of Humboldt, Frosty & Linda Greene of Sanborn, IN, and Channing & Kristi Greene of Humboldt; son-in-law, Dale Hadar of Sullivan, Indiana; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Val Greene; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; daughter, Candance Hadar; brothers, John, Bill, Richard, and Gary Greene; and sisters, Bonnie Bjornson, Dorothy Brownfield, Helen Anderson, and Electra Roberts.
