Charles L. Hauck

Charles L. Hauck, 88, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at UnityPoint Health in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars. Reverend Janis Christensen will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at St. Olaf Cemetery in Bode, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. The Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service will assist with the graveside service. Charles Louis Hauck was born on April 5, 1934, at the family home near Livermore, Iowa to John Louis and Maxine Mae (Howard) Hauck. He was baptized on November 25, 1934, at First Presbyterian Church in Livermore. Charles graduated from Livermore High School in May 1952 where he was the senior class president. He then attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa for 2 years. He worked at a feed mill and with a carpenter crew in Livermore. Charles enlisted in the army in 1956 and did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was then stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington from 1957-1958. Prior to and following his military service, he worked as a driver’s license clerk.

On November 23, 1958, Charles and Orlinda Grace Helland were united in marriage at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode, Iowa. From August to September 1959, he attended Patrol School in Des Moines, Iowa. His first assignment was as the Driver’s License Examiner in Dyersville, Iowa. He also worked in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Vinton, Iowa. In 1965 he transferred to the Iowa Highway Patrol as a State Trooper. In 1973, Charles was promoted to Sergeant in Cherokee, Iowa. He attended several accident investigating schools and worked as a certified accident reconstructionist. In 1983, he was promoted to Lieutenant in Davenport, Iowa. In 1989, after 29 1/2 years, Charles retired and moved to Alexandria, Minnesota where he could enjoy his favorite past time of fishing. In June 2017, he and Orlinda moved to Le Mars.

Charles was active in the Sons of Norway. He went to Norway in 2000 as an officer delegate. He was the District Treasurer and held several local offices. He was an active member in his church families, being council member and president at several of the churches.

He loved wood working and made several projects for the churches where he was a member, as well as projects for his family and friends. Fishing was always an enjoyment to him and after retiring he was able to make several trips to Canada. Charles also enjoyed cooking for the family and friends, and served as the “master chef” for the guys on fishing trips.

The school in Livermore had no yearbook, so after he retired, he and Orlinda gathered information from classmates and the Livermore and Humboldt newspapers to put together a yearbook for his classmates. He was also instrumental in planning class reunions which were held several years.

Charles will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Orlinda, of Le Mars; his children, Brenda Dawn (John Cook) Hauck and Brian Jeffrey (Kathy Rogers) Hauck; his grandchildren, Desiree Lynn Hauck, Brandon John and Courtney Elizabeth Cook; great-grandchildren, Jamari Antwan and NaKaya LaShay.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
