Clifford H. Lewellyn

Clifford Harlson Lewellyn was born on July 21, 1921, in Ida Grove, Iowa to Art and Hattie (Dutler) Lewellyn. He attended school in Ida Grove and graduated in 1939. Cliff worked in Ida Grove until he began his service in the Signal Corps attached to the Air Force and was stationed in Fresno, CA. He was united in marriage to LaVon Hazzard on August 28, 1943 at Hammer Field in Fresno, CA. After his assignment in Hawaii in WWII, he was discharged from the service and attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa for two years. Cliff then joined the Ida County State Bank at Ida Grove where he and LaVon resided until 1960 when Cliff accepted a position at the Security State Bank in Algona, Iowa. He joined the First National Bank in Humboldt, Iowa in 1962 and became president of the bank in 1968. Cliff was active in many community affairs.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #119, Iowa Bankers Association, Lifetime member of Kiwanis Foundation of the Iowa-Nebraska District, 50 year member of Kiwanis where he served on various committees and as President of the Humboldt Club and Lt. Governor of Iowa-Nebraska District, 18 year board member of Friendship Haven and received the Herbert R. Bennett award for dedication to Friendship Haven in 2000, past member of Humboldt County Development Corporation, Humboldt Country Club, Humboldt Chamber of Commerce, past member and officer of the Humboldt Booster Club, Chairman of the Sponsoring Committee for the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital, served as President of a Nine County District Bank Group, County Savings Bond Chairman for a number of years and a member of the Savings Bond Committee for the State of Iowa, served on the Iowa Central College Advisory Board, received Boss of the Year award given by Humboldt-Dakota City Jaycees, Honorary 4-H member for being staunch supporter of 4-H, North Central Area of Special Olympics Committee, Treasurer of Humboldt County Drug Council.

Cliff and LaVon were members of Faith United Methodist Church with Cliff serving as a Past Trustee, Lay Delegate to the Conference and Chairman of the Albert Morehouse Trust Fund. After retiring Cliff and LaVon loved to travel and were escorts for Northwest Iowa Tours. Cliff loved golf and sports and was an avid Iowa State Cyclones fan and Minnesota Vikings fan. Cliff and LaVon resided in Humboldt for 55 years. They moved to Springvale Independent Living in June 2014 and moved to Primrose Assisted Living in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in May of 2017 to be closer to their daughter Kathy and her family. Lavon passed away on September 11, 2017. Cliff passed away there on Monday, October 15, 2018 surrounded by family.

Cliff is survived by his son Craig (Muriel), Raleigh, North Carolina, daughter Kathy (Douglas) Blomker, Harrisburg, South Dakota, 7 grandchildren, Dariele Cooper, Dustin Lewellyn, Anna Jordal, Courtney Lewellyn, Kaitlyn Wanamaker, Piper Blomker, honorary grandson Ronald Blackman, 6 great grandchildren, Hannah Burchfield, Ethan Burchfield, Ben Cooper, Abigail Poston, Taylor Jordal, Graham Jordal. Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, wife LaVon and son Gary.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Visitation will continue at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 20th at the Faith United Methodist Church followed by services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Ida Grove, Iowa at 2:30 p.m. Memorials will be given to LifeScape Foundation which supports children and adults with disabilities or the charity of your choice. www.masonlindhart.com
