Dean B. Schulze 50 of Humboldt passed away suddenly Sunday October 10, 2010 in rural Humboldt. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday October 14 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton and the Rev. Matthew Manz officiating. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Dean was born February 12, 1960 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge to Garold and Glenda (Rood) Schulze. He grew up on the family farm in rural Humboldt, and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1979.  He began working for K. C. Nielsen Ltd. when he was 16 and continued to do so the rest of his life. On June 6, 1979 he married Ruth Schultz. To this marriage were born son, Steve and daughter, Jennifer.  The marriage was dissolved in 1994. On February 16, 1996 he married Joline Vande Voort, and the couple made their home in Humboldt. To this union was born a son, Derek.
Dean was a lifelong active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church acting as a janitor until a few years ago and as an usher for worship services. He ran the food stand for the church at the Humboldt County Fair. He served as a leader for 4-H clubs for many years. Dean’s interests included fishing; drag racing, cooking, meat smoking, the Kansas City Chiefs and Iowa State Cyclones. He enjoyed raising livestock with his children, playing cars and trucks with his sons and dress-up with his daughter.
Surviving Dean are his wife Joline, sons, Steve Schulze of Boone and Derek Schulze of Humboldt; daughter, Jennifer (John) Stevenson of Cedar Falls; step-children Brandon Erickson of Humboldt, Jessica Erickson of Manson, and Brett Erickson of Humboldt; parents, Garold and Susan Schulze of Humboldt and Glenda Schulze of Bode; brother, Dan (Susan) Schulze of Littleton, Colorado; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Mike (Jeanne) Vande Voort of Ames, Brenda (Russ) Martin of Fort Dodge; step-brother, Sean (Heidi) Phillips of Dakota City; step sister, Carol (Bill) Miller of Humboldt; mother and father-in-law, Henry and Martha Vande Voort of Pella; and nieces and nephews, Wade, Jena, Emily, Jackson, Sarah, Caleb, Gauge, Katelyn, Austin, and Riley.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents Arnold Schulze and Merium Mumper; and Burton and Margaret Rood.
The family encourages memorial contributions in lieu of flowers.
