Donald Becker, 77, of Humboldt, passed away October 12, 2015 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Father James Tigges will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Humboldt with full military rites by Adams American Legion Post 119 and Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. A parish scripture service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Don is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sandy Becker of Humboldt; his children, Vicky Chaput of Eagan, MN, Julie (Tony) Dunn of Parkersburg, David (Anastasia) Becker of St. Michael, MN, Wendy Becker of Humboldt, Scott (Christel) Becker of Humboldt, and Nicolas (Myka) Becker of Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren, Brittany (Zach) Tobin, Amanda Dunn, Zachary Dunn, Drew Russell, Taylor Chaput, Kayla Chaput, Macy Becker, Rylie Becker, Annelise Becker, Livvy Becker, and Reed Becker; brothers, George Becker of Sun City, AZ, Albert (Molly) Becker of Algona, and Jake (Linda) Becker of Algona; sisters, Rita Henely of Sun City, AZ, Germaine Flesher of Homer, LA, and Irma Kayser of St. Cloud, MN; and sister-in-law, Shari Nordlund of Humboldt. He as preceded in death by his parents, George and Ida Becker; and siblings, Anton, Mathew, Thomas, Lawrence, Fr. Luke, James, Sr. Clare, Raymond, Fr. Nicholas, Emma, Martha, George, Margaret, Mary, Edith, and Theresa.
Donald Becker the youngest of 22 children of George Becker was born October 18, 1937 at Algona, Iowa. He was raised and educated at St. Joe and following his education, became a cabinetmaker. He then worked for Sande Construction and Becker Construction where he built grain bins. Don served in the United States Army in the early 1960’s. On May 14, 1966, he was united in marriage to Sandra Weber at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. The couple made their home in St. Joe briefly before moving to Corinth Township in Humboldt County. Don began farming with his father-in-law, Dale Weber, eventually taking over the farming and livestock operations.
Don was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was active in the choir and served on the school board. He loved bicycling and was proud to have ridden over 25,000 miles or as he liked to say “around the world”. He taught himself to play the piano and loved to sing. He enjoyed playing pool, darts, and bowling.
