Earl D. Erickson, 91, of Humboldt, passed away August 3, 2009 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton and Rev. Matthew Manz officiating. Interment will be 10 a.m. Thursday at North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mr. Erickson is survived by his son, Errol (Peg) Erickson of Humboldt; daughter, Elaine Erickson of Lodi, WI; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Ernest (Bernice) Erickson of Humboldt; sister, De’Ette Enfield of Humboldt; and sister-in-law, Mabel Erickson of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leora; son, Alvin; infant daughter Barbara; sisters, Myrtle Grimminger and Goldie Koberg; and brothers, Ansil, Ray, Dale, and Adrian.
Earl Erickson, the son of Freeman and Christina (Sorgenson) Erickson, was born October 14, 1917 at Red Cloud, Nebraska. As a young boy, Earl moved with his family to St. Paul, Nebraska and attended country schools near Elba. In 1939, he moved to Humboldt. He was united in marriage to Leora Seward on March 2, 1945 and the couple made their home on a farm near Humboldt. They farmed together until 1973 when they moved into Humboldt. Mrs. Erickson passed away in July of 1984 and Earl continued to make his home at Humboldt and enjoyed helping his son with the farming operations. He became a resident of the Humboldt Care Center South in June of this year.
Earl was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council, the Building Committee, and the Extension Council. He also served on the Humboldt Elevator Board and the Board of W&H Coop. He enjoyed square dancing with Leora, gardening, yard work and farming.
