Edward L. Fischer, 73, of Humboldt, passed away April 14, 2010.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt with Fr. James Tigges officiating.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Humboldt.  Visitation with the family will be from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with a parish rosary at 5:00 p.m. and parish scripture service at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ed is survived by his children, Catherine (Kevin) Taylor of Ida Grove, Terrance (Debra) Fischer of Waterloo, Thomas Fischer of Humboldt, Cari (Shane) Higgins of Remsen, and Colleen (Ryan) Munter of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Kristopher (Angie) Taylor, Kelley (Kirk) Haaland, Kimberly, Cayla, and Caitie Taylor, Elizabeth, Eddie, and Joe Fisher, Nathan (Amanda) Fischer, Brandon and Tyler Fischer, Shanna and Skyler Higgins, and Colten and Collin Munter; great grandchildren, Kaleb and Aubrey Taylor, Hannah Haaland, and Carter Fischer; and brothers, Charles (Darlene) Fischer of Manchester, and Donald (Irene) Fischer of Dubuque.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice; brother, Merle Fischer; and daughter-in-law, Cynthia (Grebner) Fischer.
Edward Leo Fischer, the son of Edward H. and Elizabeth H. (Weber) Fischer, was born October 28, 1936 at Earlville, Iowa.  He received his education at St. Patrick’s Catholic School at Ryan, Iowa.  Following his education, Ed worked as a truck driver for Payless Cashways Lumber Yard in Manchester.  On October 27, 1956, he was united in marriage to Janice Power at St. John’s Catholic Church in Delhi, Iowa.  In 1957, Ed went to work in the meat department of Fareway Food Stores in Manchester.  As he moved up the management ladder with Fareway, the family made their homes in the communities of Manchester, Waverly, Oelwein, and Independence.  In 1970, they settled in Humboldt where Ed opened the new Fareway Store.   In 1978, Ed established Bob and Eddie’s Quality Meats in Humboldt which he owned and operated until taking the position of salesman for a wholesale lumber company.  He retired in 2001.  Mrs. Fischer passed away in 2005 and he continued to maintain his home in Humboldt until his death.

Ed was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.  He enjoyed boating and camping, working on his cars, and carpentry.
