Eric James Sime, the son of Russell and Grace (Thompson) Sime was born on October 4, 1944 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  He was raised in Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1962. He attended Ellsworth Community College and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Mankato State University.  Following his education, Eric enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.  Following his honorable discharge in 1967, he was employed with Iowa National Mutual Insurance in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  It was in Cedar Rapids that he met Rita Coberly and they couple were united in marriage on January 10, 1970.  They soon moved to Kansas City where Eric continued his work in the insurance industry until 1974 when they moved to Humboldt.  Eric joined the Ben Miller Agency later purchasing it.  He then merged his agency with Smith Realty and Insurance and Eric and his partner Bill Merris owned and operated that agency together for the next 30 years.
Eric was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church where he had served as head usher.  A lifelong golfer, Eric received a golf scholarship in college and continued his love of the game through his membership in the Humboldt Country Club where he had served as past President and accomplished two holes in one.  A faithful member of the Humboldt Noon Kiwanis, Eric especially enjoyed Christmasland.  He took great joy in providing Christmases for underprivileged families in Humboldt County.  He enjoyed morning walks and coffee with his friends, puzzles, and hikes with Brian.  Above all, Eric enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren and following their activities.
