Eunice M. Lathrop Christian, 101, of Humboldt, passed away September 2, 2008 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Oak Hill Baptist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Richard Lauger officiating. Interment will be in the Dayton Cemetery, Dayton. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Saturday prior to the services at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Christian is survived by her daughter, Marjorie (Ron) Herrington of Humboldt; sons, Guy W. (Carol) Lathrop, Jr. of Humboldt and Ken (Gladyce) Lathrop of Iowa Falls; step son, Darrell (Elaine) Christian of Jackson, TN; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Guy Lathrop; second husband, Lester Christian; granddaughter, Susan Herrington; great grandson, Edward Keller; sister, Grace Olson; and infant sister, Lucile Olson.
Eunice Marie Olson, the daughter of Andrew Emil and Edith m. (Graves) Olson, was born April 23, 1907 at Burnside, Iowa. She received her education at Burnside and graduated from Burnside High School in 1926. Following her education, Eunice worked in her fathers country mercantile store. She was united in marriage to Guy Lathrop at Burnside in 1932 and the couple made their home at Burnside all of their married lives. From 1946 – 1961 Eunice served as a cook in the Burnside School district. Mr. Lathrop passed away in 1957 and in 1961, she married Lester Christian and the couple made their home at Fort Dodge. From 1961 – 1978, Eunice worked as a cook for Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. In 1978, she and Lester moved to Yellville, AR. Mr. Christian passed away in 1988 and in 1991, she made her home at Humboldt.
Mrs. Christian was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church and Martha Circle. In Fort Dodge, she had served as the church pianist for the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafts, gardening, and camping. Most of all she enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
