Gaston C. Nobert, 87, of Humboldt, passed away October 29, 2015 at the Humboldt Care Center North. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Interment will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. A parish rosary will be 5 p.m. and parish scripture service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Gaston Chatel Nobert, the son of Alphonse and Anna (Chatel) Nobert, was born March 8, 1928 at Montreal, Canada. Following his education, he moved to Manchester, New Hampshire to work in his uncle’s sign company. On October 9, 1948, Gaston was united in marriage to Helene Montminy and the couple made their home in Manchester where Gaston worked as a diesel mechanic. He received his US Citizenship in June of 1952 and in 1957, became an electrician for ITT. He was transferred with the company to Anchorage, Alaska where he helped to maintain the United States’ Early Warning Defense System (Dew). His work then took him to Europe, followed by the Hanford Nuclear Site in Pasco, Washington, ITT's Corporate Headquarters in Paramus, New Jersey, and finally to the Cavalier, North Dakota Missile Sites.
In 1973, Gaston joined The Hormel Packing Company and moved the family first to Austin, Minnesota then to Fort Dodge, Iowa. Helene passed away in 1979. On April 16, 1982, Gaston was united in marriage to Lillian Eastman. Gaston was then transferred by Hormel to Davenport where they remained until his retirement in 1991.
In their retirement, the couple made their home in Humboldt where Gaston was active at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served at Recorder. He was active in the Noon Kiwanis Club and enjoyed helping to maintain Christmas Land. He enjoyed woodworking, Indy Car racing, and playing his harmonica. Above all, Gaston cherished the time he spent with his family.
Gaston is survived by his wife, Lillian of Humboldt; children, Louise (Larry) Rangitsch of Los Angels, CA, Ann (Michele Mielnicki) Nobert of Los Angels, CA, Jane (Paul) Jasmin of Apple Valley, MN, Judith (Mark Ballast) Cassioppi of Clearwater, FL, Paula (Bob) Thies of Algona, Ken (Laurie) Eastman of Stillwater, OK, and Sandy (Leon) Loney of Humboldt; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; along with his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Helene; one brother; and two sisters.
