George E. Kellogg, 88, of Humboldt, passed away August 19, 2008 at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mr. Kellogg is survived by his wife Rodola; sons David (Valarie) of Modesto, CA, Douglas (Judith) of Marlborough, MA; daughter, Marjorie (Dr. Laine) Dvorak of Humboldt; grandchildren, Andrew and Erin Kellogg, Amanda (Scott) Sibson, Michael and Daniel Dvorak, Rick (Renee) Kellogg, Kristine (David) Wedig, and Kimberly (Todd) Falor, and Matthew, Bradley, and Kimberly Kellogg; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dean (Charlotte) Kellogg and Kenneth (Jean) Kellogg. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Spencer; daughter-in-law, Helen; and grandson, Christopher Kellogg.
George Edward Kellogg, the son of George Henry and Wilma (Lundt) Kellogg was born April 4, 1920 in Ogallala, Nebraska. He was raised and educated in North Platte, NE and graduated from North Platte High School in 1938. Following his graduation, Mr. Kellogg enrolled at the Universtiy of Nebraska, majoring in both electrical and mechanical engineering. During his enrollment at Nebraska, the United States entered into World War II and George left school and enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and went back to school at Nebraska, graduating in 1948.
On August 28, 1949 he was united in marriage to Rodola Nelson. Later in 1949 the family moved to Milwaukee, WI and George started what would be a 33-year career at General Motors as a Mechanical Engineer. While working for GM, George developed 63 patents, many of which are still used today. During his time with General Motors, Mr. Kellogg and his family lived in several different cities including Kansas City, Dayton, Ohio, and Paris, France. In 1983 Mr. Kellogg retired from GM. From 1979 to 2006, the Kellogg's made their home in Dayton, Ohio. During his retirement George continued to take part in his different hobbies including, woodworking, inventing, investing and giving financial lessons, and traveling all over the world.
Mr. Kellogg was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Lutheran Church. In Humboldt he was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church . He was an Eagle Scout, and an active member of the Boy Scouts where he served as Scout Master for many years. He enjoyed camping and was an avid sailor. George was a great inventor of many different things and loved to fix things even up until his passing. In Leiu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Our Saviour's Centennial Mission Fund at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Humboldt.
