Howard Himrod, 84, passed away on Sunday, May 4, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Ft. Dodge, IA.  Funeral Services will be held at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt on Thursday, May 8, at 10:00am.  Burial will be at the Indian Mound Cemetery.  The Mason Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 7, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.  Private Masonic services will follow the visitation.

Howard was born on October 28, 1929 in rural Humboldt County near Gilmore City.  His parents were Guy and Mariece Beatty Himrod.  He had a brother Merlin and a sister Norma.  They farmed until Howards father passed away in 1943 and then they moved to Humboldt.

He married Violet Nelson on September 14, 1952.  They had two children, Roger and Diane.  They made their home in Humboldt.

He is survived by his son Roger (Pam) Himrod and daughter Diane (Harl) Stephenson, five grandchildren- Lisa (James) Wonneberg, Alyssa Stephenson, Laura (Eric) Brunner, Andrea (Wayne) Allbee and Adam Stephenson.  He is additionally survived by six great-grandchildren- Kori, Lenix, Luke, Brayten, Kate and Hailey.  He is also survived by his sister Norma Erhardt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother.

Howard served in the Army from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed in Germany.  He began working for the Iowa Public Service Company in 1952 until his retirement in 1991.  He served as a volunteer fireman for many years and belonged to the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years.  He had a great love for the river and served on many clean-up projects and worked on the River Restoration Project.  He also was a member of the Humboldt Country Club and enjoyed regularly playing golf there.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Trinity Cancer Center (Unity Point) in Ft. Dodge.
