J. Eleanore Grefstad, 96, of Bode, passed away June 9,
2014 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, Bode. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Thursday atthe Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Bode.

Juliet Eleanore Olson, the daughter of Thomas and Dora (Bakke) Olson, was born January 15, 1918 at Bode, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode and attended school at Bode where she graduated Valedictorian of her class.

She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and became certified to teach the primary grades. She taught in Albert City, West Bend, and Rolfe and loved teaching little children. During World War II, she worked at a United States Naval Station in San Diego, California. Following the war, she returned to Bode and married the “neighbor boy” Orlando Grefstad on June 1, 1950.

Eleanore had a strong faith and was very active in the church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years. She was active in Ladies Aid, Circle, sewing, serving lutefisk suppers, and many other events. She was also active in the Republican Women, and American Cancer Society drives and she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Farm Bureau Women.

Eleanore was preceded in death by her husband, Orlando; her parents, Thomas and Dora Olson; brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Marguerite Olson; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Eileen and Vilas Larson, Anna Jane and Leonard Johnson, Norma Dorenkamp, and Richard Riggan. She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, George Grefstad, sister-in-law, and husband, Adela and Clarence Helland, nephew, Dennis Larson, and great nephew, Kyle Engel.

She is survived by her sister, Nancy Riggan; her brother and sister-in-law, Grant and June Olson; brother-in-law, Cal Dorenkamp; her many beloved nieces and nephews and their spouses; as well as her many great nieces and great nephews.

Eleanore enjoyed people, loved to chat with everyone, and participate in every activity.
