James F. Bowden, 83, of Humboldt, passed away May 9, 2011 at his home in Humboldt.  Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Walden Paige officiating.  Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
James Franklin Bowden, son of William J. and Harriett (Carmer) Bowden, was born on April 14, 1928, near Masonville, Iowa.  The Bowden family moved from eastern Iowa to Humboldt County in 1945.
Mr. Bowden graduated from Gilmore City High School in 1946.  He and Mavis Jane Law were united in marriage on December 31, 1950, at the Gilmore City Methodist Church.
Mr. Bowden served in the US Army from April 1951 through April 1953.  He was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Hood, Texas, with the First Armored Division; and with the 28th Infantry Division in Germany during the Korean Conflict.  Mr. Bowden returned from military service in April 1953 and farmed near Humboldt for 40 years, was a salesman for Pioneer International Seed Corn for 30 years and retired in 1998.
Mr. Bowden enjoyed his family and friends, deer hunting, fishing, woodworking and grilling on his Weber charcoal grill.
He was a 50-year member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge Chapter 147, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, VFW, and American Legion, and belonged to the Faith United Methodist Church.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his daughter Sally (Jack Trautman) of Loveland, Colorado; son Bill (Nancy) of Humboldt; and daughter Michelle Graham of Waukee, Iowa; grandchildren:  Michael James (Heather) Bowden; Nickolas James (Abby) Bowden, Chelsea Bowden, Jordan and Colton Smith; and Matthew James Graham.

Memorials will include Trinity Hospice and the Faith United Methodist Church.
