James H. Huffman, 81, passed away December 12, 2010 peacefully at his home at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge.  Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m.  Friday at the Celebration Center at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge with the Rev. Gary Bird officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.  The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.

Jim is survived by his children, Mike (Carol) Huffman of Cleghorn, Iowa, Laura (Dale) Johnson of Lehigh, Iowa, and Beth Huffman Frank of Indianola; grandchildren, Rachel Fernandez, Justin (Tera) Huffman, Shawn Huffman, Jeremiah (Andrea) Johnson, Scott Johnson, Keith Johnson, and Hudson Frank; great grandchildren, A.J. Fernandez, Mya Fernandez, Kyle Johnson, Jordan Johnson, and Collin Johnson; nieces, Charlotte (Keith) Vanderbeck and Jeannie Bethel.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Georgann (Lewis) Huffman and his parents.

Jim was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Leroy and Mildred (Hudson) Huffman on August 28, 1929.  He moved to Moberly, Missouri and graduated from Moberly High School.  He attended the University of Missouri, enlisted in the Air Force, and served in Austin, Texas.  He graduated from the University of Missouri with a master’s degree in music.  He taught music and played in symphony orchestras and dance bands throughout the Midwest.  He moved to Fort Dodge in 1970 and taught senior high orchestra and conducted the Fort Dodge Symphony until 1978 when he moved to Aurora, Colorado and opened a printing business.  He retired in 1998 and moved to Humboldt to be close to his children.  Since the death of Georgann in 2006, he moved to Friendship Haven where he enjoyed conducting the bell choir, his daily “meeting” with friends at the coffee shop, and an occasional pool tournament.

He was a member of many musical organizations, the Karl King Band, Faith United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the American Legion.  He enjoyed being with his family, camping, traveling, reading, doing woodwork for his family, and had a love/hate relationship with golf.

Memorials may be made to Friendship Haven Care Trust, the Fort Dodge Symphony, or the Karl King Band.
