Jayson Chauncey Maach, the son of Albert and Gladys (Paulson) Maach, was born March 22, 1919 on the family farm near Humboldt.  He attended South Airline Country School and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1938.  Following his education, Jayson worked on the family farm until enlisting into the United States Army Air Corps.  He was stationed in St. Louis and Baton Rouge until serving three years in the south pacific.  Jayson attained the rank of Master Sargent and was the leader of crews maintaining P-38 and P-40 fighter aircraft.

It was at a dance in California that Jayson met Helen Cabage.  The couple was united in marriage on August 1, 1945 at the Wee Kirk of the Heather Chapel at Forest Lawn in California.  Following his honorable discharge, the couple returned to Humboldt where Jayson was employed by the Highway Department.  In 1949, the couple began farming and in 1957 they purchased their farm near Humboldt.  They farmed there together until making their home at Springvale in May of 2008.  They later made their home at the Newton Health Care Center.  Mrs. Maach passed away in November of 2008.

Jayson was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church where he took great pride in his ushering duties.  He and Helen enjoyed potluck dinners with their friends and traveling.  He served on the boards of the Bode and Humboldt Elevators.  Jayson was a pioneer in the area of land conservation and was the recipient of early conservation awards.
