Jean M. Vitzthum, 81, of Humboldt, passed away January 19, 2011 at the Humboldt Care Center North.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt with Fr. Jim Tigges officiating.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Humboldt.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with a parish rosary at 4:00 and parish scripture service at 7:00 p.m.
Mrs. Vitzthum is survived by her children, Terry (Donna) Vitzthum of Bayard, IA, Jerry (Linda) Vitzthum of Minneapolis, MN, Lloyd (Jill) Vitzthum of Humboldt, Denise (Tim) Smith of Gilmore City, Rhonda (Mike) George of Humboldt, Renee (Mike) Colwell of Iowa Falls, Bernice “Toots” (Casey) Albertson of Morrow, OH, Deb (Scott) Fevold of Humboldt, and Lisa (Shawn) Dandridge of Shawnee, KS, Chad (Beth) Vitzthum of St. Michael, MN; 27 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Barb) Goetz of Texas; and her sisters, Ruth (Arnie) Brandt of Algona, Pat (Jerry) Judge of Boone, Elaine (Glen) Amber of Des Moines, Grace (Jack) Delander of St. Michael, MN, Delores (Mike) Roland of St. Paul, MN, and Kathy (Ray)Stephens of Plant City, Florida.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Denis Vitzthum; brother, Bob Goetz; sister, Lucille Atencio; and infant sister, Arlene Goetz.
Jean Marie Goetz, the daughter of Leo and Matilda (Arndorfer) Goetz, was born July 7, 1929 on a farm in Hancock County near Wesley, Iowa.  She received her education at Wesley and graduated from Wesley High School.  She was united in marriage to Denis Vitzthum on November 14, 1949 at Remsen, Iowa.  The couple made their home in various Northwest Iowa communities where Denis served as grocery store meat manager.  In the late 1960’s the couple operated a restaurant at Gull Point on West Lake Okoboji until moving to Humboldt in 1970.  Jean was employed by Gordy’s Restaurant in Dakota City and the Fireside restaurant in Humboldt.  Mr. Vitzthum passed away in 1985 and Jean continued to work at the Fireside and Farmegg until her retirement in 1999.
Jean was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  She especially enjoyed Iowa State Cyclone Basketball.  She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, puzzles, and most of all babysitting her grandchildren
