Lou Jean Monson, 83 of Humboldt, formerly of Bode passed from this world to eternal life with her Lord Jesus and her husband Larry on July 7, 2015 at Humboldt Care Center North. Graveside services will be held August 22, 2015 at St. Olaf Cemetery in Bode. A luncheon and visitation will follow at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is assisting the family.
Lou Jean Painter was born June 24, 1932 in Lucerne, MO to Gully Leo Painter and Marie (Black) Painter. She was united in marriage to Lawrence G. Monson on her 18th birthday, June 24, 1950 in Webster City. To this union, three children were born, Valerie, Betsy, and Kevin. The couple lived in Webster City and Washington, Iowa while Larry worked for Fareway Stores. In 1961, the family moved to Bode to help Larry’s uncle Art Monson in the family grocery Store. They continued to live In Bode until moving to Humboldt Care Center North in 2012. Larry passed away December 13, 2014.
Jean was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. She loved her family and enjoyed playing golf with Larry.
Remaining to cherish Jean’s memory are her daughters, Valerie Monson and partner DeGray Vanderbilt of Maui, HI, and Betsy Roberts and partner, Ron Meyers of Dows, IA; her son, Kevin Monson of Bode; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren; sister Mary Slayton of Pueblo, Co; brother Cyrus Painter of Excelsior Springs, MO; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her death were her parents, husband Larry, and her brother Robert Painter.
