KAY ANN SAWYER
Kay Ann Sawyer, 84, of Clarion, formerly of Renwick, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born February 5, 1934 in Livermore, Iowa, the daughter of O.J. and Ethel (Welter) Cayou. She graduated from Livermore High School, class of 1952. She was united in marriage to Richard D. Sawyer on September 2, 1953. The couple made their home in Livermore where they owned and operated Sawyer’s Super Valu. In 1971, they moved to Renwick. She enjoyed reading, baking pies, which many people enjoyed, loved dogs, her family and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa State Cyclones. The couple moved to Clarion in 2017.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard of Clarion, her children, Sandy Sawyer of Boone, Sue (Craig) Slattum of Joice, Iowa, Jeff Sawyer of Eagan, Minnesota and Jay (Carri) Sawyer of Bettendorf, her grandchildren, Abbey (Troy) Hess, Jordan (Kassandra) Sawyer and Troy Sawyer, her step-grandchildren, Katie (Luke) Thielen, Jason (Alyssa) Slattum and her great-grandson, Oliver and step-great-grandchildren, Ben, Haley and Hannah and her brother, Joe (Lou) Cayou of International Falls, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Jared and infant son, Jay Michael.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Burial will be at a later date in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Livermore. Memorials in her name may be directed to the Boone County Humane Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. www.masonlindhart.com
