Kermit C. Chantland, 87, of Humboldt, passed away October 20, 2014 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Badger Lutheran Church in Badger, Iowa with the Rev. Darryl Landsverk officiating. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt with full military rites by the Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240 and Adams American Legion Post 119. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Kermit C. Chantland, the son of Carl and Cora (Mhyre) Chantland, was born September 14, 1927 at Battle Lake, Minnesota. His family moved to Badger, Iowa when Kerm was two years old.

Kerm attended country school and later helped his family farm. In 1950, he enlisted with the United States Air Force where he spent four years in California and England. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and went to work for Coats Welding and then for the Chantland Company. He became their plant manager in 1968 and continued working there until May of 1992 when he retired.

In October of 1971, Kermit and Sharon were married and his family grew to include Sharon’s two sons, Jeff and Jim.

Over the years Kerm enjoyed fishing and hunting. He and Sharon enjoyed their many winters spent in South Texas where he liked to play a lot of pool and golf. He was a member of the Badger Lutheran Church, the Humboldt Rotary Club, Adams American Legion Post 119, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5240.

Kerm is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Jeff Davis of Humboldt and Jim (Kallie) Davis of Rutland; grandchildren, Chris (Suzanne) Davis, Brittni Davis, Justin (Jen) Davis, Lindsay (Aaron) Samuelson, Tyler Davis, Jordan (Lexi Harvey) Davis, Ian (Donielle) Decker; great grandchildren, Sophia Davis, Keira Davis, Taevon Lloyd, Brinley Lloyd, Mason Davis, and Zoey Decker; brothers, Lawrence (Loa) Chantland, Mervin Chantland, and John Chantland; and a sister-in-law, Janice Chantland. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clifford, William, and Douglas; and five sisters, Kaye, Florence, Jeanette, Gladys, and Doris.
