Leroy "Emery" Bottelson
September 30, 1923 — February 24, 2019
Leroy “Emery” Bottelson, 95, of West Des Moines, formerly of Humboldt, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 in West Des Moines.
He was born September 30, 1923 in Bricelyn, Minnesota, the son of Leonard and Ellen (Nodland) Bottelson. He was raised in Minnesota, yet graduated from Renwick High School in 1941. He had fond memories of the summers he spent with his grandparents in Frost, Minnesota. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943, after returning from the Navy, Emery went to a skating party in Eagle Grove. It was there a young girl accidentally tripped him and he told her he would “get back at her” one day. He ended up marrying this young lady, Mavis Ellertson on July 31, 1948. Mavis was the love of his life and they were able to share 70 years together. He then attended Waldorf College. He graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield and pursued a career in accounting, working for Fort Dodge Labs for 35 years. Emery loved people, and loved to visit with them. One of his favorite memories was traveling to the Holy Land with Mavis, a gift provided by their children for their 50th Anniversary. They were known as “the couple who always held hands.”
He is survived by his wife, Mavis, his children, Mark (Elaine) Bottelson, Ann Morris, Ruth (Scott) Meyer all of West Des Moines, his grandchildren, Sara (Chris) Faidley, Laura Bottelson, Megan Badeaux, Mikel (Nikki) Morris, Matt (Missy) Morris, Christine (Michael) Taylor, Brett Meyer, Erin (Jeff) Stamp, Amy Meyer, Nathan (Jessica) Meyer and Kojo Otchere-Badu, his great-grandchildren, Hayden and Jackson Faidley, Payton and Haley Morris and Landon Martin
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1st at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and the Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. Burial will take place at a later date at Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Renwick. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in West Des Moines, Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Humboldt, Sather’s-Odgaard VFW, Dakota City, American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. www.masonlindhart.com
