Linda Lou Waderich, 80, of Humboldt, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Long Term Care at the Humboldt Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born October 27, 1938 in Ida County, the daughter of Matthew and Melinda (Hein) Kollbaum. She grew up on a farm five miles south of Ida Grove and attended country school, walking two miles each way. The school still stands at Moorehead Park in Ida Grove County. She graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1957. At the early age of thirteen, she became the caregiver to her paralyzed mother who suffered from a stroke. She took over all the household chores while still attending school. Linda met Don Waderich in Denison, IA, and they were married on May 6, 1962. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in the Grant Township Lutheran Church. Their first home was in Dow City, IA, and they moved to Denison in 1965. They were blessed with two daughters. Linda worked as a housekeeping supervisor for Eventide Nursing Home for 32 years. The couple moved to Humboldt in 2006 after retirement. Linda especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, gardening, tending her flowers, cooking, baking, polka dancing and fishing with Don who baited her hook. Her family will always remember her cinnamon rolls and delicious pies.
She is survived by her husband, Donald of Humboldt, her children, Debra (Daniel) Martin of Kiron, Iowa, Linette (Terry) Case of Humboldt, her grandchildren, Michael Bauer, Heather (Bill) Hast, Alex Case, Emily (Quincy) Lamp and Claire Case, her great-grandchildren, Zoey, Hailie, Kaitlyn, Ethan Hast and Reagan Lamp, her siblings, Merlin Kollbaum, Verdene (Linda) Kollbaum and her brother-in-law, Glenn Mesenbrink. She was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Melinda Kollbaum, her sister, Vernette Mesenbrink, and sister-in-law, Colleen Kollbaum.
Linda was a devoted, faithful, loving wife never asking for much and very content to just be at home.
