Lloyd L. Fortner, 89, of Humboldt, passed away April 20, 2012 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.  Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt with military honors by the Sathers-Odgaard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5240 and Adams American Legion Post 119.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Fortner is survived by his children, Sandra (Mike) Stein of Oskaloosa, Kathy (Dennis) Jergenson of Humboldt, Dennis Fortner of Fort Dodge, and Jerry (Lori) Fortner of Dakota City; grandchildren, Todd (Marnie) Stein, Troy (Keely) Stein, Travis Stein, Dana Jergenson, Shane Lemaster, Derek Fortner, Tim Fortner, Cassandra Lilly, and Emily Fortner; several great-grandchildren; sister, Violet Fox of Des Moines; twin sister, Mabel Nygaard of Humboldt; and brother, Wendell Fortner of Humboldt.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Vi; and his second wife, Lola.

Lloyd Lewis Fortner, the son of Floyd and Lillian (Johnson) Fortner, was born May 15, 1922 at Clarion, Iowa along with his twin sister, Mabel.  When Lloyd was a young child, the family moved to Humboldt where he received his education.  He was then drafted into the United States Army Infantry where he saw action in Germany.  Following his honorable discharge, Lloyd returned home to Humboldt.  He was united in marriage to Vi Dunning at Humboldt and the couple made their home in Humboldt.  Lloyd worked first as a house painter for various contractors before going to work for Gunder Manufacturing and Ram Industries.  He then went to work for The Chantland Company until his retirement.  Vi passed away in May of 1979 and Lloyd continued to make his home alone in Humboldt until June 21, 1984 when he married Lola Sorenson.  Lola passed away in June of 2003.

Lloyd enjoyed fishing and spending time with his children on their family camping trips.  He also enjoyed woodworking and refinishing furniture.
