Lorraine H. “Babe” Enger, 89, of Bode, passed away February 9, 2011 at the Humboldt Care Center North.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode with the Rev. Steve Bliss officiating.  Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, Bode.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Bode.

Lorraine “Babe” Fagerhaugh was born December 6, 1921 in Roanwood, Montana to Ole and Bertha (Shaw) Fagerhaugh of Killdeer Saskatchewan, Canada.  Her mother died when she was four years old and she was raised by friends on a large ranch in Montana where she received her education through the 10th grade.  She then moved to Minneapolis to live with relatives and graduated form North High School in 1939.  After attending Luther College on Decorah for one year, she entered a three-year nursing program in Minneapolis.

In 1942 she was united in marriage to LeRoy Enger.  The couple lived in many states as he served in the Army.  In 1943, LeRoy was sent to the Pacific Theater for 26 months and during this time Babe worked for a doctor in Kansas City.  In 1946 the couple moved to Bricelyn, Minnesota where LeRoy taught school and served as principal.  In 1951, they moved to Bode to run the family farming operations.  The couple had three children, JoAnn in 1953, Janet in 1954, and Jeff in 1956.  While LeRoy farmed and taught in the Twin Rivers School System, Babe returned to nursing, working at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital, the Algona Hospital, Good Samaritan Center, and the Humboldt Care Center South.  Following their retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling.  Mr. Enger passed away in 2002 and Babe continued to maintain her home until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North in 2006.  She passed away there on the morning of February 9, 2011 at the age of 89.

Babe loved helping people and often said she “never met a stranger”.  She enjoyed bowling, cards, and singing which included her participation in a double barbershop quartet called the “Melody Moms”, her 50 year membership in the church choir, directing youth choirs, and serving as soloist at many weddings and funerals.

Babe was very active in her community and church, teaching Sunday school for over 10 years, serving several terms on the church council, belonged to the Bode Community Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Hospice, served as Blood Drive County chairperson, Humboldt County Cancer Board and Daffodil sales, UDMO Board, and Magistrate Board.

Babe is survived by her daughter, Janet of Humboldt; grandson, Richard (Molly) Harman IV of Ankeny; three nieces; four nephews, and cousins in Minnesota and California.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy; daughter, JoAnn; son, Jeff; sons-in-law, David Law and Dennis Moench; and five siblings.

Former co-workers, friends, and family will miss babe.  May god bless her.
