Lorraine E. Lowe, 84, of Dakota City, passed away March 15, 2012 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.   Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday March 19, 2012 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. J.K. Raether officiating.  Interment will be in Zion Cemetery.  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Mrs. Lowe is survived by her daughters, Joyce Lee of Humboldt, Kathy (Mick) Lynde of Panora, and Rachel Frieden of Humboldt; 10 grandchildren, Patti (Joe) Surma, Tracy (Kirk) Olson, Amy Serrata, David (Amanda) Farber, Todd (Nicole) Lee, Terry (Jeremy) Wickre, Tony Lynde, Sarah Lynde, Anna Frieden, and Leah Frieden; 14 great grandchildren; and brother, Arthur (Margaret) Weiss of Humboldt.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mervin; her son, Steven; grandson, Michael Lynde; five brothers, Edmund, Arnold, Edgar, Elmer, and Waldo Weiss; and four sisters, Velma Kropf, Alma Niemeyer, Edna Kramer, and Esther Weiss.

Lorraine Emma Weiss, the daughter of Otto and Ida (Lehman) Weiss, was born June 8, 1927 in Beaver Township, Humboldt County where she was raised and educated.  She was united in marriage to Mervin Lowe on February 11, 1947 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Beaver Township and the couple made their home in Humboldt County.  They returned to Beaver Township where they farmed until moving to Dakota City.  After her son and daughters where raised, Lorraine stayed busy sewing and cleaning for area family’s and businesses and for 20 years, maintained the Humboldt County Courthouse.  Mr. Lowe passed away in 2002 and Lorraine continued to maintain her home in Dakota City until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North in January of last year.

Lorraine was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in L.W.M.L. and the church choir.  She was a long time member of the American Legion and V.F.W Auxiliary, was a member of the Worthwhile Club, and served as a 4-H Leader when her children where involved.  She enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans for her children and grandchildren.  Lorraine had a green thumb and enjoyed sewing and feeding the birds, especially Humming Birds, Gold Finches, and Cardinals.  Above all, Lorraine loved the time she spent with her grandchildren.
