Marion Genevieve Opheim was born in Ottosen July 14, 1920 to Carl William Opheim and Selma Amelia Sween Opheim.  She grew up and attended school in Ottosen and Bode, graduating from Bode High School.  On April 5, 1941 she married Ronald Helvick at the parsonage in Bode.  They welcomed two sons, Roger and Eugene and two daughters, Carolyn and Beverly.  The couple farmed in Beaver Township before moving to Humboldt in 1951.  After establishing their home in Rainbow Drive Marion worked at Knight’s Cottage Cheese, Reasoner Casket Company, and The Picture Frame.  These businesses were within easy walking distance of home for Marion.  Ronald passed away in October 1996, and Marion continued to reside in the family home until moving to the Long Term Care Unit of Humboldt County Memorial Hospital earlier this year.
Marion was an active member for Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt, participating in Ladies Aid and quilting at the Church.  She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making blankets and afghans for family members.  Marion was an avid card player.  She played 500, pinochle, and many games of Old Maid with her grandchildren.  When no one was available to play cards with her she played solitaire and did word find puzzles.  The most important aspects of Marion’s life were faith and family.  Many relatives and friends lovingly called Marion “Mom”.  She possessed a strong faith in Jesus, and nightly prayed The Lord’s Prayer aloud.

Remaining to cherish her memory are daughters Beverly (Keith) Stoneburner of Aurora, Colorado and Carolyn (Richard) Boyle of Maquoketa; brothers Wayne (Barbara) Opheim and Earl (Shirley) Opheim both of Mason City; sister Agnes Berge of Humboldt; 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  Preceding Marion in death were her husband Ronald in 1996; sons Roger and Eugene; brother Keith; sisters Laila Wilson, Velma Johnson, Orpha Johnson, Doris Chantland, and Barbara Johnson; 1 grandchild and 1great-grandchild.
