Marvin J. Gronbach, 81, of Humboldt, passed away June 16, 2012 at the Humboldt Care Center North.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt.  Interment will be in Zion Cemetery, Beaver Township, with full military honors by the Livermore American Legion.  Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Church.  The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marv was born on February 20, 1931 at home in Livermore, Iowa, to Elmer and Lucile (Melavin) Gronbach. He was raised and educated in Livermore, Iowa.

Marv joined the Navy in 1951, being honorably discharged in 1955. He served on the U.S.S. Wadleigh, stationed out of San Diego; CA. Marv then married Bernice Weiss on May 27, 1955. They made their home in Beaver Township where Marv farmed and for a while, worked for W&H Coop. From there he worked at Butch’s O.K. Tire, then P&M Stone, and Sande Construction. Marv last worked for the City of Humboldt Parks Department as Superintendent until he retired in 1996 after 18 1/2 years of service.

Marv was active in the Livermore American Legion as past commander for numerous years.  He was also a member of the Lion’s Club, the Noon Kiwanis Club, the Izzak Walton League, and a very active member at Zion Lutheran Church where he served on many different boards. Marv was very supportive of the community; he enjoyed Wildcat sports, and was always willing to help others when needed.

After retirement he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and having coffee with his buddies. Marv loved his family, especially his grandchildren; he never missed the chance to slide in a smart comment or joke.

Marv is survived by his wife Bernice (Weiss) Gronbach; his children, Wayne Gronbach (Sun City, CA), Vivian Gronbach (Thor, IA), James and Judy Gronbach (Dakota City, IA), Gary and Dawn Gronbach (Fort Dodge, IA), and Lyle and Mary Gronbach (Dakota City, IA). He is also survived by his cousin, Mary Michelle (Belavista, AR) along with many nieces and nephews. He had 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Marv was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Gronbach; his parents; sister Delores Whittmeier; and brother Robert Gronbach.
