Marvin H. Sawyer, Jr., 81, of Humboldt passed away August 25, 2010 at the Humboldt Care Center North.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt with Fr. Jim Tigges Officiating.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Humboldt.  Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.  A parish rosary will be held at 5:30 and parish scripture service at 7:30 Friday at the funeral home.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Barbara; eight children, Diane (Jack) Liddell of Aurora, CO, Sharon Voelschow of Caulfield, MO, Debra (Steve) Thornes of Ashville, NC, Peggy (Craig) Larson of Vincent, Joyce (Terry) Peterson of Humboldt, Teresa (Mark) Myer of Fontanelle, IA, Jane (Rick) Nielsen of Gilmore City, and Rick (Zoe) Sawyer of Elizabeth, CO; 18 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Kay) Sawyer of Renwick, Gerald Sawyer of Estherville, Kenneth (Sharon) Sawyer of Humboldt, and Charles (Jeanne) Sawyer of Hollister, MO; and sisters, Beverly (Frank) Schmitt of Sarasota, FL, and Virginia (Charles) Baugous of Ankeny.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Gordon Voelschow; brother Merlin; and sister, Patricia.
Marvin Henry Sawyer, the son of Marvin and Gladys (Bjornson) Sawyer, was born June 2, 1929 in Humboldt County.  He attended country school in Grove Township.  He married Barbara Nilles on October 24, 1950 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Gilmore City.  The couple farmed in Humboldt and Webster Counties until their retirement when they moved to Humboldt.  Marvin served as the Weed Commissioner for several years.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was active with the fish fry’s sponsored by the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus and was also a 4th Degree Knight.  He enjoyed his family, fishing, golfing, and trips to the casino.
