Mary "Pat" Hall

Mary “Pat” (Peasley) Hall, 92, of Humboldt (formerly of Creston, Iowa) died on Monday, September 14, 2020, at Humboldt County Long Term Care in Humboldt, Iowa.

Pat was born December 12, 1927, in La Harpe, Illinois, the daughter of George Frederick and Hazel (Garvey) Peasley. She was raised on a farm outside of La Harpe. Following her graduation from La Harpe High School in 1945, she earned degrees from Cottey College and Monmouth College prior to obtaining her Master of Library Science degree from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She worked as a children’s librarian in Evansville, Indiana and Kansas City, Missouri.

She met Donald Hall at the University of Illinois and the two were united in marriage at the Union Church in La Harpe on August 19, 1952. The couple lived in Kansas City, Missouri and Cedar Rapids, Creston and Sioux City, Iowa, before returning to and settling in Creston for the remainder of their married life. Don worked for the Social Security Administration and Pat was a homemaker when her children were growing up. An actress since her school days, Pat entertained local audiences in lead and primary roles as a member of the Creston Community Theater. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Creston, where she taught Bible classes, was active in United Presbyterian Women, served on the Session and was involved with jail ministry.

In 1979, Pat returned to work as a librarian for the Area Education Agency for 14 years. During her retirement she loved to read, tend her flower garden, knit and volunteer at Greater Regional Health of Creston. Pat and Don also traveled extensively to locations around the world.

She is survived by her children Melinda (Ron) McDonald of Springfield, Illinois, Jonathan Hall of Lakewood, Colorado, Priscilla (Scott) Petersen of Independence, Kansas, Larry (Kathy) Hall of Badger, and Andrew Hall of Windsor Heights, Iowa. Also surviving are grandchildren Emily, Chelsea, Xander, Alison, Alex, Matthew, Benjamin and Molly, great-grandchildren Carson, Mason and Delany, and sister Jane Ann Speer of Monmouth, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Don in 2002.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, at the Badger Lutheran Church in Badger. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at church. Graveside services and interment will be in Morgan Cemetery, Kent, Iowa (near Creston) at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 22nd.
