Mary Lou Smith, 80, of Humboldt, passed away June 14, 2009 at the Humboldt Care Center South. Services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her children, Karrie (Bryce) Johnson of St. Michael, MN, Kristy (Rich) Moeller of Lansing, MI, and Richard Smith of Humboldt; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allan Smith; son, Guy Smith; granddaughter, Katie Marie Johnson; brothers, Frank “Bud”, and Bob Fisher; and sisters, Olene Rogers, Pauline Miller, and her twin sister, Betty Smith.
Mary Lou Fisher, the daughter of Fred and Gertrude (Gray) Fisher, was born November 2, 1928 at Gilmore City, Iowa. She was raised and educated at Gilmore City and graduated from Gilmore City High School in the class of 1945. Following her education, Mary Lou Worked as a telephone operator in Humboldt. She was united in marriage to Allan Smith in 1947 at the Methodist Church in Humboldt. The couple made their home at Red Lake, Ont. Canada where they owned and operated a fishing resort until 1956. The couple then owned and operated a restaurant in Algona before moving to Gilmore city to manage the family grocery store. Mr. Smith passed away on February 12, 1979 and Mary Lou moved to Pocahontas where she served as an NCARF counselor. Following her retirement, she made her home at Humboldt.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and word finds, and cooking.
